The historic old town

A tour through the old center of Andernach old town takes you past numerous sites that reflect the town’s 2.000 year old history. The 56 m high Round Tower (Runder Turm) for example withstood an attack from the French in 1689. You will encounter more contemporary witnesses on your way, such as St. Mary’s Cathedral (Mariendom), the Old Crane (Alter Krahnen), the medieval Mikvah (Jewish ritual bath) and the well preserved Old Town Wall (Stadtmauer). You may have heard the story of the Baker Boys of Andernach who used beehives to save the town... you will meet them at the Rhine Gate (Rheintor).
